Baldies' Blog began originally in the UK by a 26 year old journalist with a blood cancer on a mission to inform the world about bone marrow donation.

He has since died, and I took on the cause of making cancer care more transparent for everybody.

Cancer is a disease that will touch everybody through diagnosis or affiliation: 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed and 1 in 3 woman will hear those words, "You Have Cancer."

I invite you to read how I feel along my journey and
how I am continuing to live a full life alongside my Hodgkin's lymphoma, with me controlling my cancer, not my cancer controlling me.

I hope that "Baldies' Blog" will prepare you to handle whatever life sends you, but especially if it's the message, "You Have Cancer."

Getting my Groove Back

I’m getting my groove back.
It’s taken me a while.
I’ve had a substantial amount of wallowing.
I’m not going to lie, I haven’t been myself for the past 3 weeks or so.
I feel like I got body slammed by life.
Now, it’s time to move on. Pity party over.
I’m sensing my “you-ain’t-see-nothin’-yet” attitude coming back.
And you know what?
You haven’t.
I’ve got a business plan in mind that I hope to execute.
I’m trade marking the idea. I’m creating a budget. I’ve searched some grants. I’m perfecting my business plan. I’m taking strategic steps.
Eventually, I’ll have to find seed money, which is the most daunting task of all.
Cross your fingers, say some prayers, and we’ll see what we’re made of.
My biggest problem is trying to think through how to make my business plan greed proof.
Yes, greed proof. I don’t want some dirty little money grubber getting their sticky fingers on my idea and exploiting the poor and sick anymore.
Really, looking back, our health care system all started with good intentions.
Past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior I’ve heard.
I think it was Johnson that started Medicare/Medicaid to have a “legacy” after a woeful presidency. The idea was that no person should go without healthcare due to illness or age.
Novel idea, but look what it’s turned into. It’s been abused and misused in too many ways.
I hear HMOs were started in the 80s to control rising hospital costs.
Now look at how the script has flipped, but who would’ve imagined how bad a good idea could go.
Maybe, the third time is a charm.
Unfortunately, Obama’s love affair with the media is going downhill, and Tom Daschle may be the first to get ousted as a result.
Okay, whatever, as long as Dean gets in like I’d hoped.
You all are entitled to think who deserves the seat.
Let’s be real about Daschle, nobody wants to pay their taxes. However, unfortunately, tax evasion is a product of greed.
Greed needs to stay out of health care.
It is not okay to profit off people trying to survive.
It’s wrong.
So any future plan of action for health care reform certainly needs to be greed proofed. I do have an idea to take the power back.
I just hope I can fight both my illness and the system at the same time. Thank goodness we baldies have an army.

Yeah! I'm old enough to remember when our doctor would stop by our house on his way home from a day at the office, and he would only charge $5.

Those days are gone...pretty much ruined once insurance companies got involved in the first place!

Maybe we could do what some of the folks in California (including my son who just started his own engineering firm)are doing --bartering for goods and services!

Bring on the chickens and the eggs!

Love your plan!! Health care is so horrible now a days! Last time I went to the docs in cali, I was having horrible migraines. The doctor as so quick to get me out of there, I wasn't able to ask any ?'s.
Now coverage is another nightmare!!
So frustrating!!
Glad your getting your groove back babe!!!
